AOM

Alliance For Open Media

AOM or Alliance For Open Media is a non-profit organization that was founded on 1st September 2015 by the leading IT companies such as Google, Mozilla, Netflix, Intel, Amazon, Cisco, and Microsoft and drives development of AV-family codecs. AV codecs are designed as the open and royalty-free alternative to MPEG codecs. The first published codec by the organisation is AV1. In addition, AOM gives legal defense for the users against potential patent trolls actions.
