Bitrate

Bitrate is a good example of a leaky bucket work model. It limits channel bandwidth in an attempt to preserve the subjective quality of video streams.

Usually, the bitrate is marked as “bit/s” and has the following types:

  • CBR - constant bitrate
  • VBR - variable bitrate
  • ABR - average bitrate

Video or audio files coded with lower bitrates use less storage space and/or bandwidth channel but have poor quality, in opposite files coded with higher bitrates use much more storage space but the quality will be higher.
